“Two Satyrs; Darwin and Wallace” oil on wood 30x25 (2024)

This influenced painting, inspired by Rubens’s famous work, is an interpretation of the fathers of evolution. The place of man in the animal kingdom has always been a question. The declaration or discovery of evolution has a longer and more challenging history than we thought. The human mind was not too willing to accept its real situation in the “chain of existence,” and still isn’t. Actually, all mythologies of nations have their own stories or figures that expose the relativity of human and animal existence. In this work, I aimed to honor Darwin and Wallace by painting them as “Two Satyrs” because Satyrs were one of the first traces of knowledge of our real descent. The origin of organisms, and the journey from the inanimate to us, is a process that we must focus on if we want to understand the our existence because the process is not over; it is still happening and ongoing. Biological determinism is a much larger concept than we thought; it is not just a “deus ex machina”; it is a “deus” who taps on “like buttons.” #darwin #wallace #evolution
